From a gounder farming family in Erode district, he completed his SSLC (10th standard) from S.S.L.C. Corporation Higher Secondary School at GobichettiPalayam by 1966

Sengottaiyan joined All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazgam (AIADMK) in 1972 and started his political journey as a panchayat secretary

Within two years, his luck increased: the founder of the party, M. Yes. Ramachandran (MGR) allowed him to contest the 1977 legislative assembly elections from Satyamangalam constituency in 1977 - a decisive moment

Since that early win, Sengottayian established himself as a stability in Tamil Nadu politics. He represented Gobichitipalayam as an MLA in many words- 1980, 1984, 1989 (under Jayalalithaa's faction), 1991, 2006, 2011 and 2016 

This long -lasting record makes him one of the longest serving AIADMK kils, as well as with counterparts like Durmurugan 

Ministerial roles

During his political tenure, Sengottayian organized various departments:

Transport Minister (1991–1996) during Jayalalithaa's first ministry 

In 2011, when the Agriculture Minister returned to power AIADMK. Later that year, he infection in information technology portfolio in a cabinet reshuffle 

Achievements of KA Sengottaiyan as education minister

In 2017, he made an important comeback, serving as the Minister of School Education, Youth Welfare and Sports Development, appointed the leader of the House in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

Disputes and legal matters

Earlier in his career, Sengottayian faced a legal investigation. During his tenure as a transport minister, a special court acquitted him, citing insufficient evidence, about the Rs 1.58-crore JJ Transport Corporation scam.

Further developments came to light in September 2025, when Sengotianian held a meeting with supporters and announced that he will "speak his heart" on 5 September, exactly about internal dissatisfaction and advocacy for party unity, O. Panniselvam (OPS) and V. Of. With restoration of Sasikala

Reports suggest that he feels out of major decisions and disagreement with the leadership of EPS, even dropping symbolic gestures such as the characteristic of the image of EPS in his local office.
